We have divided this highly diverse region of West Virginia into the following sections:

Metro Valley

City and forest blend among the broad valleys of the Ohio and Kanawha rivers. Many of West Virginia's largest cities can be found here, including Charleston, WV and Huntington, WV. Shops, restaurants, festivals, museums literally brim out of the valleys and climb into the hills beyond.

Southern Coalfields

The Appalachian image of the impoverished coal miner originated in this labyrinth of sharp mountain ridges -- part of the largest unbroken forest in the Eastern U.S. Among its declining hollows and coal towns, some of the state's most remote parks and forests hide.
