RAILROADS BY REGIONS

We have begun work on the "Railroads by Region" section of WVRailroads. Our plan is to present information on West Virginia railroad topic divided into the "standard" geographic regions of the state.

We have set up the New River / Greenbrier Valley section as an working example of this format.

URL: http://www.wvexplorer.com/WVRailroads/default.asp?catid=24&cattitle=New+River+/+Greenbrier+Valley

We have begun to develop the following sub-topics with the New River/Greenbrier Valley section:

Active Rail Lines - This section is currently under development.

Depots/Stations - A guide to the depots located within the region.

Drawings, Blueprints & Maps - Links to downloadable drawings, blueprints and maps of railroad structures, yards, etc.

Excursions & Tourist Lines - A guide to excursion trains and tourist lines operating in the region.

History - Sites providing information about the history of the region's railroads.

Museums & RR Displays - Links to RR museums, information on locomotives on display in the region, etc.

If you would, please visit the section and provide us with any suggestion you have regarding this structure. Feel free to suggest any changes/additions you think would be helpful.

We plan to work on the expansion of the New River/Greenbrier Valley section during the coming week, and then expand the format into the other (7) regions of West Virginia.

SCALE DRAWINGS

WVRailroads is pleased to make digital copies of the scale drawings of the historic C&O Railway structures and sites available for downloading. These Public Domain drawings are from the National Park Service's Chesapeake & Ohio Railroad (sic) Recording Project of 1988.

Drawings added this week:

Scale Drawings - Hinton Depot

Scale Drawings - Thurmond Depot

Drawings we expect to add within the next few days:

Scale Drawings - Hinton Yard
Scale Drawings - Thurmond Yards
Scale Drawings - Thurmond Enginehouse

In addition, we also expect to add drawings of the KAYMOOR MINING COMPLEX online at about the same time.

We also plan to make downloads available of additional blueprints and maps of WV railroading themes during the coming weeks and months. Most of these subjects will be of railroads and roadroad related sites in the New River Coalfield.
