Fayetteville,
WV, the county seat of Fayette County, is the
northern gateway to the New
River Gorge, an area of West Virginia renown for
its whitewater
rafting and other outdoor recreation. Fayetteville
is the host city of the annual Bridge
Day Festival, the largest single-day outdoor event
in West Virginia. Bridge Day is observed each year
on the 3rd Saturday of October. The festival's main events
take place from atop the New
River Gorge Bridge, located within a mile of
downtown Fayetteville.
