Please familiarize yourself with West Virginia's ATV laws and etiquette. As ATV use has become increasingly popular, laws and likely to change in the next several years. Please return to this page for current updates to ATV law.

Obey all user rules for recreation areas.

Obey all signs, gates, and barriers.

Stay on marked trails.

Adult supervision is required for passengers 16 and younger.

No fires or camping on the trails unless otherwise designated..

Alcohol is forbidden on public trail systems.

Drive at a speed reasonable for conditions.

ATV operators must meet manufacturers’ minimum age requirements.

DOT, SNELL or other approved helmets and eyegear is required in most trail systems..

Motorcycles and ATVs must have a properly functioning mufflers and approved spark arrestors.

Carry photo identification at all times.

Litter laws are stringently enforced in West Virginia: don't litter.
