Cabins, campgrounds and camping areas encircle the areas near the New River Gorge and Gauley River. Notable varieties include primitive and luxury facilities, both public and private. Note that whitewater rafting companies many also maintain private campgrounds and camping sites for their clients.

ACE Adventure Center

The 1,400-acre ACE Adventure Center, overlooking the New River Gorge, is an adventure-vacation destination in itself as well as one of the area's most spacious campgrounds. Families with young children will find our wooded park the ideal place for a vacation. We offer lots of activities suitable for children as young as five and, for adults, our guided caving, kayaking, rock climbing, mountain biking, and horseback riding programs. Our park includes a five-acre swimming lake with a sandy beach and floating playground and volleyball court. Canoeing and paddle boating on the lake are free and sit-on-top kayaks for the kids. We also maintain 25 miles of trails for hiking and biking that connect with the National Park Service's trails. Catch bluegill, catfish, and trophy largemouth bass in our five stocked ponds, where you won't need a license (though fishing is catch and release).

The 850-acre Class-VI Vacation Center on the New River Gorge provides for family camping as well as for cabins and cottages. Money-saving campground packages include dining at Smokey's-on-the-Gorge and your choice of biking, hiking, fishing, climbing, or paddling excursions, including family float trips on the New River or high-adventure whitewater rafting on the lower New. Camping-area trails lead into the hiking and climbing trails of the national parkland near the Canyon Rim Visitor Center.

Crossroads RV Park

The Beckley area's most convenient RV park is located just off the U.S. 19 freeway in North Beckley, one-mile north of Crossroads Mall and fewer than five minutes from I-77/64. Five paved, level parking sites ensure privacy and include water, electric, and sewage hookups. You won't find a more accessible RV location. Only 15-minutes south of the New River Gorge Bridge.

The campground at Drifters Bar & Grill provides a small number of tent sites, including three with electric hook-ups, especially for campers looking for economy rates and a great place to party. Just off the U.S. 19 expressway at the entrance to the middle New River Gorge, our campsites are convenient to all the area's great outdoor recreation. Showers and restrooms are available at the grill.

Adjacent to the Flatwoods Hotel & Conference Center on I-79, our new RV park provides 50 deluxe sites with full water, sewer, and electric services only a 50-minute expressway drive north of the New River Gorge. All sites are accessible by broad, paved roads and include grills, fire pits, and concrete patios. Most are pull-through. Guests are granted access to amenities at the adjacent 200-room hotel, including its indoor and outdoor pools. We're only a quarter mile from the Flatwoods Factory Outlet Stores.

Since 1975 North American River Runners has organized whitewater vacations that are the pinnacle of fun and excitement. NARR is an adventure resort with a campground, cabin tents, and bunkhouse. The large, modern bathhouses provide no-waiting showers. Other amenities include a screened activity/picnic pavilion, campfire pits, and tent rentals. In addition, the NARR resort offers America’s best whitewater rafting, fishing trips, and forest rope courses as well as a giant climbing wall, a super swing, paintball games, and basketball and volleyball courts. Wilderness RV Campground

The largest private RV campground in the New River Gorge area, Wilderness provides more than 30 shaded and open sites for RVs with water and power or full hook-ups, and we're located right on the U.S. 19 expressway, so getting here is easy. Spaces are wide and accessible and great for groups. You'll see deer wandering through the grounds every evening. Beautifully wooded tent sites are also available. Up to five people will be allowed per site. Children younger than 12 stay free, but must be under adult supervision at all times. Pets are welcome, but must be leashed at all times. Alcohol is not permitted. Handicap-accessible bathrooms with hot showers are being expanded during the 2003 season. We're only 11-miles north of the New River Gorge Bridge and five miles south of Summersville Lake, convenient to area shops, restaurants, and scenic and historic attractions. A resident manager is on duty to ensure your stay is safe and stress-free. The campground line is open for reservations 24-hours a day at 304-872-9199.
